Dax Dasilva, Founder and CEO

Dax Dasilva is the creative mind behind Lightspeed Commerce. Founded in 2005, Lightspeed is the unified POS and payments platform for ambitious entrepreneurs to accelerate growth, provide the best customer experience and become a go-to destination in their space. It powers the world's best businesses in over 100 countries globally.

Dasilva was reappointed as CEO on February 15, 2024. Prior to that, he served as Executive Chair of Lightspeed’s board of directors for two years, and previously led the company’s operations as Chief Executive Officer since its founding in 2005.

Lightspeed employs over 3,000 staff worldwide and powers hundreds of thousands of customer locations worldwide. During Dasilva’s leadership as CEO, the company went public in March 2019 on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol LSPD, becoming one of Canada’s top 10 technology IPOs. In September 2020, the company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Lightspeed also undertook 9 acquisitions over the course of a four year period to consolidate the global market and launch two, best-in-class flagship products: Lightspeed Retail and Lightspeed Restaurant.

JD Saint-Martin, President

Mr. Saint-Martin joined Lightspeed in May 2019 through the acquisition of Chronogolf, a SaaS company he co-founded in 2013. In October 2019 he was promoted to Senior Director of Global Account Management and in July 2020 he became our Senior Vice President of Global Sales. In 2022, JD became President of Lightspeed.

Prior to founding and growing his own company, Mr. Saint-Martin accumulated five years of experience in Venture Capital and Private Equity at Teralys Capital in Montreal and GE Equity in London, UK.

Mr. Saint-Martin holds a Master of Science in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor of Commerce in International Business from the University of Ottawa.

Asha Bakshani, Chief Financial Officer

Asha Bakshani was promoted to the position of Chief Financial Officer in April of 2022. Previous to that she was Lightspeed’s Executive VP of Finance.

Ms Bakshani leads all finance-related functions including financial reporting, core accounting, internal audit, financial planning & analysis, tax, and investor relations. She started her career at Lightspeed in November 2014. She has over 15 years of experience as a financial leader in the technology/media space.

Before joining Lightspeed, Ms Bakshani was the Senior Vice President of Finance at Cineflix, a media production and distribution company. Prior to that, she spent almost 10 years working in public accounting at Deloitte and Arthur Andersen and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Canada and a CFA charterholder. She holds a B. Comm and Graduate Diploma in Accounting from McGill University. Asha also sits on the board of a non-profit organization, Spread the Joy.

Daniel Micak, Chief Legal Officer

Mr. Micak has served as the head of our legal function since September 2018 becoming our Chief Legal Officer in December 2022. Prior to that, Mr. Micak was VP, Assistant General Counsel and Assistant Corporate Secretary at D2L Inc. from June 2017 to July 2018, and Assistant General Counsel and Assistant Corporate Secretary with D2L Inc. from September 2011 to June 2017.

Mr. Micak also previously worked in private practice as an Associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. Mr. Micak holds a J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in English Rhetoric and Professional Writing from the University of Waterloo.

Shirvani Mudaly, Chief People Officer

Shirvani Mudaly is Lightspeed's Chief People Officer, stepping into the role after being VP, People & Culture, APAC. With a significant background in change management, developing leadership capabilities and culture transformation, Shirvani's focus is on how Lightspeed attracts, engages and retains amazing people and fosters high-performing teams.

Prior to her roles with Lightspeed, Shirvani was Chief People Officer at Vend and Yellow in New Zealand, and has 20 years' of HR experience in the tech, financial and media sectors. She gained a Bachelor of Education from the University of Auckland and a Diploma in Business Studies, Human Resources from Massey University.

John Shapiro, Chief Product & Technology Officer

John Shapiro is Lightspeed's Chief Product and Technology Officer. He is responsible for leading our global Product and Technology team and driving our product strategy to bring technology and insight to the innovators who are elevating their industries. In his previous role as SVP, Retail Technology, he worked to help integrate the Supplier Network into our core retail platform across POS, eCommerce, and B2B.

Previously, John served as Head of Product and Design, Global Supplier & Merchandising at Wayfair where he was responsible for the global supplier product and design organizations, and was previously at Intuit where he was the Director of Product Management for QuickBooks, including serving as the GM for QuickBooks Payments. During his time at the company, he and his team drove QuickBooks worldwide subscribers from 400k to 2.4m paying SMBs. Prior to that, he held product roles at Adobe, where he helped transition the company's Creative Suite into a SaaS subscription model by launching Creative Cloud.

John is passionate about empowering product teams to form deep customer insights and solve user problems in ways that propel business outcomes. He has a track record of creating high-functioning product organizations. John has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Stanford University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
